Anne Seidel, age 92, of Newark, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).
Anne was born November 11, 1928 in Newark, Ohio. Following the death of her mother Grace when Anne was 2, she was raised by her grandparents, Frank and Lillian (Beem) Owens.
Anne was employed for 40 years as an executive secretary with the Pure Oil Company which later became Union Oil. She was also a secretary for 13 years for the City of Newark Mayor’s office.
Anne was very active and was a valued asset in the Newark and Granville communities. She was a Charter Member since 1958 of the Sweet Adelines, and sang in several quartets. She was a current member of the Crystal City Barbershop Chorus. Anne was very involved with the American Legion Auxiliary Post 85 and was president in 2013-2015, and District 6 President for the Department of Ohio. In April of 2019, the meeting hall at the American Legion Post 85 was dedicated in her name. She also held the position of secretary for the Auxiliary and the Chorus. Anne had the incredible talent of playing music by ear and didn’t read a note of music. If she heard it, she could play it on the piano, and often played at the meetings of the groups that she was involved with.
Anne was a very active member of the Granville Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1957, where she held the positions of Regent, Recording Secretary, Historian, Treasurer and, most recently, Chaplain. She made it her mission, even as recently as this year, to place flags on the graves of Revolutionary War soldiers at Old Colony Burying Ground in Granville. She was also past Overseer at Madison Grange #1981 and held many offices in the Granville Grange #2230. She was a long-time member of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century in Columbus.
Anne was a very dear lady who will be fondly remembered for always being happy, joking, and having a smile on her face, even during difficult times. She loved spending time with her family doing puzzles. She loved her late dog, Charlie, and often spoke of him. In these later years her friends related that she loved taking car rides, especially to Amish Country, and visiting Charleston with them. “See you later, Alligator”.
She is survived by her sister, Jeane O. Randolph of Morrisville, North Carolina, formerly of Granville; nieces, Jane Randolph of Bluffton, South Carolina and Susan Randolph of Apex, North Carolina; nephews, John (Loretta) Owens of Granville, Jay (Nora) Owens of Cleveland and Ed (Loretta) Owens of Nashville, Tennessee; great-nieces, Elisabeth Sluchak of Washington, D.C. and Lyndel (James) Sorenson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; great-great-nephew, Owen Sorenson; dear friends, Lorraine and Rick Cody of Newark, and their grandchildren who were close to Anne and on whom she doted, Cayden, Kaylee, Brielle, Enna, Caitlin and Jaylynn.
