A memorial service celebrating the life of Anthony L. Tony Flyer, age 75, of Newark, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Tony was a longtime member of the local recovery community, and friends are welcome for coffee and fellowship from 12-2 p.m., prior to the service at 179 Granville Street in Newark. Tony was born January 19, 1943 in Painesville, Ohio to the late Robert John and Norma Ethel (Harding) Flyer. He passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 surrounded by friends. Tony was known to be a man of Honor and Integrity. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and faithfully served his country in Vietnam (1966-1968) receiving several medals and commendations. After a long career as an AEP (Ohio Power) lineman, Tony loved to tinker, do leatherwork, and craft custom knives. In addition, he enjoyed time in his backyard watching the antics of "Rocky" the squirrel and tending his flowers. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Robin Flyer of Chardon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
