Arthur M. Johnsen Iii

A memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Arthur M. Johnsen III, 69, of Hebron will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at his residence, 762 Lakeshore Dr. West in Hebron, Ohio.Arthur was born in Newton, NJ on September 3, 1945 to Arthur M. Johnsen and the late Janice (Larson) Johnsen. He passed away at Licking Memorial Hospital on August 21, 2015.Prior to retirement after 22 years, Art was a Certified Wildlife Biologist who started as a Wetlands Habitat Specialist in the New York DEC Bureau of Wildlife and later worked in the Management Systems Unit and then became the supervisor of the Communications Unit. In the latter part of his career, Art served as the Regional Wildlife Manager for DEC Region 4, overseeing the Capital Region of New York State. Art was also active in The Wildlife Society, the professional organization for wildlife biologists and technicians, and held a variety of posts at the State Chapter and Northeast Section levels. Art was especially passionate about promoting conservation efforts in his community as well as helping formulate environmental solutions.He also served on the Planning Board for the Town of Rensselaerville, NY and was a member of the Rensselaerville, NY Historical Society, and the Organization of Wildlife Planners. He had a love for birding, camping, hiking, and canoeing the lakes in the Adirondacks. He enjoyed spending time on his tractor, tending to his upstate New York property when he wasnt buried in the mud, losing his brakes and being pulled out of his pond or wrapping him and his tractor around a tree. And when he was finally confined to a wheelchair, I can tell you as his loving caregiver, the fun continued!!!Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Janet S. (Needs) Johnsen, whom he married June 7, 1975; father, Arthur M. (Sue) Johnsen, Jr.; sister, Barbara Olsen; brother, John H. (Heather) Johnsen; sister-in-law, Diane (Phil) Moore; nieces and nephews, Kristen (Paul) Rossi, Erik (Dawn) Olsen, Maggie L. (Andy) Canniff, Nora Johnsen, Charlie Johnsen, Heather (Allen) Nutter, and Brian Moore; great niece and nephews, Addie, Andrew, Evan, Matthew and Bransen; and a host of friends.In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by one sister, Janie Johnsen.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Arthur to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.www.nationalmssociety.org.
