Avalene Mae Daniels

Avalene Mae Legg Daniels peacefully left this world to receive her rest and reward on August 8, 2024. She lived a beautiful life of 90 years, and in every way she sought to please God. Avie was married to her husband Carl Daniels for just shy of 71 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle Legg and Julia (Doss) and two sisters, Thelma Crago, and Brenda Gable, two brothers, Jimmy Legg and Danny Legg. Surviving sisters, are Hazel Wright and Shirley Hardbarger and brothers, Jackie Legg and Jerry Legg.

Avalene and Carl were active and founding members of the Pataskala Church of Christ where Avie worked faithfully in the Day School for many years and was considered the resident “Grandma”. She and Carl raised two sons in the Pataskala community. Her sons Stephen and Brian now grown and with families of their own were also raised in the Pataskala congregation. Stephen with wife Suellen (Riley) live in the north Atlanta, Georgia area and Brian with wife Audra (Gillman) live locally. Avie had five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, one of which preceded her in death and awaited their meeting in heaven. Each one was the absolute delight of her life and was convinced they were her very favorite.

Avalene grew up in West Virginia and worked in a bank for awhile as well as did all the bookkeeping for Carl in their second career as long-haul truck drivers where she was his faithful passenger and partner for many years. But in retirement years, while still staying incredibly busy, her favorite pastime was sitting peacefully in her rocker in the winter or on the porch in her glider the rest of the year, preferably with a family member or friend to chat.

Avie was an accomplished cook and baker, whose collection of cookbooks and handwritten recipe files overflow into at least two additional generations of equally good cooks and bakers.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Pataskala Church of Christ, Roger Massey officiating. Interment Pataskala Cemetary. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service beginning at 12:00 PM also at the church.
