A funeral service celebrating the life of Benjamin G. Gainer, Jr., age 63, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at the Kirkersville home of Hoskinson Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will take place in Kirkersville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at the funeral home, 285 East Main Street in Kirkersville. Ben was born April 27, 1955 in Mason, West Virginia to the late Benjamin G. Gainer, Sr. and the late Mary E. (Whitaker) Jackson. He passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Licking Memorial Hospital. Ben served in the United States Army. He was the owner/operator of B. Gainer & Sons Trucking. Ben was also an auto mechanic and enjoyed working on cars. He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Burtnett) Gainer, whom he married in June of 1992; children, Tera Sissy Hawes, Kenneth Gainer, Tonya Taylor, Chad Gainer, Brandt Gainer, Larry Gainer, Candy Slocum and Chase Heath; grandchildren, Kim, Kelly, PJ, Rhita, Faith, Benjamin IV, Bridget, Anthony, Kenny, Jr., Alexus, JJ, Anna, Kris, Hayley, Willie, Chelsea, Zachary, Cameron, Alaina, Cali, Serenity, Drayven, Trevor, Colton, and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Braeden, Makayla, Jazzy, Zander, and Abigail; sisters, Cindy Hill and Marti Gainer; brothers, Kenny Gainer and Earl Hall; a sister-in-law, Rhoda Bush; nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bandit. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita; sons, Benjamin III and Matthew; granddaughter, Keneedra; and two brothers, Sydney Smith and Floyd Butch Byers.Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home to assist with expenses.
