A funeral service celebrating the life of Betty Jean Bird, age 69, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at the Newark Free Will Baptist Church, 37 North Westmoor Avenue, with her pastor, Matthew Bryant as celebrant. Burial will follow in Kirkersville Cemetery.Betty died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday evening, May 24, 2014, at her home. She was born March 1, 1945, in Hurricane, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Jesse and Zelma (Duncan) Gillispie.Betty was a graduate of Hurricane High School class of 1963. She worked as an assembler for the Diebold Corporation of Newark, retiring in 2006. She was an active member of the Newark Free Will Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them places, and also loved to garden.She is survived by her loving family: husband, Charles Bird; children, Don (Kelly) Bird of Pataskala and Robin (Dwain) Gress of Whitehall; along with her grandchildren, Jeremy and Michelle Bird and Paul and Jessica Gress.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Hancel, Lawrence, Dempy, Homer, Bill Gillispie and Reba Holley; and a granddaughter, Hope Gress.The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 26th, (Tonight) at the Kirkersville home of the HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, 285 E. Main Street in Kirkersville.Memorials in her memory may be directed to the Licking County Aging Program.
