Betty Eleanor Lones

A funeral service celebrating the life of Betty Eleanor Lones, age 93, formerly of Thornville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, at Grace Lutheran Church, 65 East Columbus Street in Thornville with Pastor Paul Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Betty was born August 5, 1924 in New Lexington, Ohio to the late John H. and Minnie E. (Strouse) Sherrick. She passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Altercare Newark South. Betty was a 1942 graduate of New Lexington High School. She retired in 1994 from the Heath Nursing Care Center where she had been employed in housekeeping. Betty was a long-standing member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville and was a member of the Miriam Circle. She was responsible for organizing the Carnation Mothers Club of Thornville in 1950 and was a 45 year member. She was also a member of the Thornville Homemakers. She is survived by two sons, Donald E. (Sandy Trowbridge) Lones of Newark and James E. (Cheryl) Lones of Fayetteville, North Carolina; a daughter, Linda L. (Ken) Schuemann of Peyton, Colorado; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Russell Eugene Lones in 1990; and by a daughter, Peggy Ann Lones; five brothers, two sisters; and nieces. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio or Grace Lutheran Church.
