A funeral service celebrating the life of Betty J. Payne, 87, of Thornville, will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hebron chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Betty was born in Granville, Ohio on March 12, 1931 to the late James Orville and Edith (Browder) Fields. She passed away at Brookdale Assisted Living in Newark on July 5, 2018. Betty was a devoted homemaker to her family. She was a member of White Chapel United Methodist Church; Buckeye Lake VFW Post 1388; and Hebron American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, bowling and spending time with her loving family and friends. Survivors include her children, John H. Sy (Joy) Payne, Russel E. (Patty Rodgers) Payne, Jr., Jeff O. Payne, Michael S. (Kathy) Payne and Doug Fields; grandchildren, Kelly, Ashley, Sylas, Seth, Natasha, Lindsay, Jeffrey Jr., Chase and Ally; special niece, Sandi; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell E. Payne; brother, James Fields, Jr.; and sisters, Imo Jean Nichols, Martha Frost and Helen Davies.Contributions by be made in memory of Betty to the Alzheimers Association.
