Betty A. Whitman, 80, of Newark, passed peacefully in Columbus on May 20, 2014. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley, on Friday, May 23, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Iseringhausen as celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.Betty was born August 28, 1933 in Oak Hill, Ohio, the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Kiser) Jones. She was a graduate of Oak Hill High School class of 1951, where she was active in drama activities and "loved chasing boys". She retired in 1993 from the Borden Company after a 40 year career. Following retirement, she worked for Miller Romanoff Electrical Contractors. She was a person of abiding faith and was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newark. She raised her family in Gahanna, where she lived for many years. While living in Gahanna, she was an active member of Divinity/St. Lukes Lutheran Church.She is survived by her loving family: daughters, Peggy and Ally Whitman; grandchildren, Zach Blevins, Kristyn Benedum, Amie McQuirt and Dylan Large; brother, Joe, and sister-in-law, "Sister Teresa" Jones; niece, Erin (Bill) Johnson; along with many friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sue Gullet, in 2013.Memorials may be directed to the Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimers Association.Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, Newark, is honored to care for the Whitman family.
