Billy D. Gibson

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Billy D. Gibson, age 88, of Reynoldsburg, formerly of Heath, will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Rusty Foley officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors being observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.Family will receive friends at the funeral, 179 Granville Street, Newark, on Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.Billy was born in Scio, Ohio on June 12, 1927 to the late Fred and Wilma (Amos) Gibson. He passed away at his residence on May 8, 2016, after an extended battle with pulmonary fibrosis for nearly two years.Billy proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He also served as a Colonel in the Ohio National Guard for over 35 years. He enjoyed golfing, especially at the Licking Springs Golf Club, was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, but most important in his life was spending time with his loving family.Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn L. (Thomas) Gibson, whom he married October 13, 1951; son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Krista Gibson; sister and brother-in-law, Sue A. and Walter Cook; grandchildren Jessica Gibson, Allison Gibson and William R. (Margaret) Gibson; two great grandchildren, Paige Gibson and Sydney Gibson; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Mark S.
