A funeral service celebrating the life of Billy Joe Stimmell, age 85, of Hebron, will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kirkersville home of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Rocky Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkersville Cemetery, where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 285 E. Main Street, Kirkersville. Billy was born in West Virginia on February 7, 1932 to the late James and Esther (Nuce) Stimmell. He passed away at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on November 19, 2017. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was a recipient of the Purple Heart and numerous other combat awards. Prior to retirement, he worked for the US Government at DCSC for many years. He enjoyed hunting, vegetable gardening, and cattle farming. Most important was the time he spent with his wife, family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Rose (Cyphert) Stimmell, whom he married November 2, 1952; children, Roger (Mary) Stimmell, Judy McKinley, James (Lisa) Stimmell and Larena Stimmell; brother, Paul (Kathy) Stimmell; sister, Janet Shipp; grandchildren, Stacey, Jessie, Amy, Jarrod, Benjamin, Heather, Whitney, Thomas, Shauna, Anthony and Kirsten; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
