A funeral service, celebrating the life of Burl Gillman, 74, of Thornville, will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2014 in the chapel of The Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral & Cremation Service. Burial will follow at the Lutheran Reformed Cemetery at a later date. Burl died Sunday, August 10, 2014 in Newark following an extended illness. He was born in Williamson, WV on August 29, 1939, the son of the late Donald and Ella Mae (Deskins) Gillman. A self-employed contractor, he served honorably in the US Army. He is survived by his son Mike (Jennifer) Gillman of Thornville, his grandchildren Alexis, Alanna and Braylon; sisters and brothers Arnold Gillman, Cecil (Pam) Gillman, Shirley Smith, Phyllis Cox and Brenda Miller; along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Walter, Melten and Shelten; and his sister Donna Jean Richards. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m at the funeral home, 56. S Main Street in Thornville.
