A funeral service celebrating the life of Byron Eugene “Skip” Dershem II, age 66, of Newark, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, at the Newark Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Dan Meek officiating. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church, 200 South Williams Street, Newark.
Skip was born January 1, 1955 in Newark, Ohio. He passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, June 10, 2021.
Skip was a 1973 graduate of Newark High School. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a structural steel and iron worker and was also a certified welder. He attended the Newark Church of the Nazarene and assisted in various capacities at the church. Skip enjoyed feeding the ducks in his back yard, watching and sharing recordings of their antics with the squirrel competition. Up until the pandemic, Skip led an AA meeting for inmates at the jail. He was very patriotic and had an interest in politics.
He is survived by his loving mother, Betty Louise (Eyler) Dershem; sisters, Kimberly Dershem of Newark and Tamara Dershem of Columbus; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Eugene Dershem.
