A memorial gathering for Cary Richard “Dick” Bowers, age 84, of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Newark, Ohio, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the Moose Lodge Pavilion, 235 West National Drive in Newark.
Dick was born November 6, 1937 in Newark, Ohio to the late Cary L. and Helen (Hall) Bowers. He passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at his home in Florida.
Dick was employed with Kline’s Department Store for over 30 years where he was in charge of setting up the stores for Mr. Kline in Wisconsin and was the warehouse manager in Illinois. He was a member of the Newark Moose Lodge #499 where he was in charge of the horseshoes, American Legion Post 85 in Newark, and the Elks where he was Exalted Ruler in Wisconsin in 1981.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Sue (Storer) Bowers, whom he married June 10, 2011; daughter, Brenda Farmer (Matt Dodge) of Florida; step-daughter, Theresa (John) Hughes of Newark, with whom he shared the same birthday; son-in-law, Jim Grossklous of Illinois; grandchildren, Crystal (Criss) Evans of Florida, Brad (Marissa) Weiss of Florida, Anna (Darrin) Montgomery of Newark and John B. Hughes (fiancée Jessica Tate McPeek) of Newark; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Helen Louise) Bowers of Newark; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Grossklous; his first wife of 51 years, Carol Bowers; and two brothers, Mike Bowers and Gerald Bowers; and a sister, Judy Campolo Bonham.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
