Charles "Chad" Cox

August 16, 1926 — May 26, 2018

Charles Chad Henry Cox, 91, of Kirkersville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 17, 1926 in Nelsonville, Ohio to the late Ralph Shelby and Edith Estella (Price) Cox. A 1944 graduate of Buchtel High school, Chad signed up to serve in World War II at the age of seventeen. He was sent with the ninth infantry division to Belgium; after Germanys surrender, Chad served as Platoon Sergeant in charge of the guard for German prisoners at Dachau. Having grown up on his family farm, Chad worked as a feed and produce delivery truck driver after his time in the war. During that time, he fell in love with, and proposed to Kathryn Kat Taylor. Kat famously told Chad he would have to quit driving a truck if he wanted to marry her - and he did. Chad worked at Weinman Pump Company, and retired after 32 years. Chad and Kat were married in a small service on October 6, 1950 in Nelsonville, Ohio. In retirement, Chad opened his own machine shop, and dedicated his time to his family and church. A trustee at Kirkersville United Methodist Church, Chad could be seen doing everything from mowing the lawn to greeting the congregation each Sunday. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Kathryn; daughter, Kathy Cox Lohrman, sons, John Cox, Jerry Cox, and Ron (Lori) Cox; granddaughter, Nichole (Megan) Lohrman-Novak; sisters-in-law, Mrs. (John Leslie) Berta Cox and Mrs. (William) Joan Cox; as well as numerous extended family including in-laws, and nieces and nephews; and good friend, Dave Wiles. In addition to his parents, Chad is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Pamela Kay Cox; all five of his siblings, Mary (Ellsworth) Rife, John Leslie Les Cox, Lois (Ralph) Hinerman, William Bill Cox, and James Daniel Dan (Linda) Cox. The family would like to thank Dave and Suzanne Olson, as well as Dixie Sager for their endless friendship and support. The family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday, May 31, 2018, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the HOSKINSON funeral home, 285 E. Main Street in Kirkersville, where funeral services celebrating his life will follow on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 11:00am, with Pastor Neil Gaiser as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow Friday afternoon in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville, Ohio. The family prefers that memorials be directed to The Kirkersville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7, Kirkersville, Ohio 43033. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
