Charles "Dave" Eskew

A funeral service celebrating the life of Charles Dave Eskew, age 70, of Newark, will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Stephen Price officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 179 Granville St., Newark. Dave was born on December 17, 1946 in Pomeroy, Ohio to the late Charles Leo and Frances Jean (Burnside) Eskew. He passed away at his residence on December 1, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with metastatic cancer. Prior to his retirement, Dave was an IT Analyst with Lucent Technologies for 35 years. After retirement, he worked with Dr. John Robertson, his son-in-law, for 14 years. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed flower gardening. Dave was a generous man, who had an uplifting and a caring personality. Most important in his life was spending time with his family and doting over his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed coaching his grandchildren in basketball and serving as a mentor. Dave will be missed by all that knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Joetta K. (Erlewine) Eskew, whom he married July 17, 1966; daughters, Kandace (Robert) Wood, Beth (Shaun) Straw and Amy (Dr. John) Robertson; grandchildren, Megan Straw, Ashley Straw, Brandi Richards, Heather Richards, Angela Wood, John Robertson, Nicholas Robertson, Peyton Robertson, Storm Robertson, Alexis Robertson and Cole Robertson; great grandchildren, Josie, Addison and Scarlett; sisters, Barbara (Jerry) Fields and Janice Nolan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Harvey and Ruth Erlewine; brother-in-law, Keith Nolan.
