Funeral services, celebrating the life of Charles Robert Gray, Jr., 65, of Newark, will be held Tuesday January 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hebron New Life United Methodist Church, with Pastor Brian Harkness as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Jacksontown Cemetery. Charlie died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 10, 2019. He was born in Newark, the son of the late Charles R. and Marie Helen (Gibson) Gray. He was a graduate of Lakewood H.S., class of 1972, and retired after 40 years with the Village of Hebron, where he served as Superintendent of the Water Treatment Plant. Active in the community, he was an assistant Football coach at Lakewood for 20 years, also worked as a Basketball Referee, and was an active member of the Lakewood Athletic Boosters. An avid outdoorsman, he hunted and fished and was a member of the Land of Legend Big Buck Club, The Double Lung Buck Club, and Ducks Unlimited. Just last Sunday he fished at Apple Valley. He also loved football, and was an OSU and Cleveland Browns fan. Charlie was a big family man, adored his boys and grandsons; and was married to his wife Connie (George) for 48 years. In addition to Connie, he is survived by his sons Corey (Tracey), Clint (Marianne Sears-Brown); his grandsons Jordon and Jacob; his siblings Ronald (Michelle), Jimmy (Julie) and Connie (Mike) Mirise; several nieces and nephews; along with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in law Debbie (Dave) Bell, Sandy (Ron) Crew and Janie Harris. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 14, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Hebron New Life United Methodist Church. Memorial Contributions in his memory may be directed to the Lakewood Athletic Boosters.
