A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Charles Michael “Mike” Hatem, 68, of Granville, will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church, 309 N. Main St, New Lexington, OH, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Monsignor Anthony Missimi as celebrant. Burial will follow in Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 30th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Thornville chapel of Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, 56 S. Main Street, Thornville. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, masks must be worn inside the funeral home and for your protection, a maximum of 35 guests will be allowed inside at one time. Please practice social distancing. Mike was born in Zanesville, Ohio on September 19, 1952 to the late Louis W. and Margaret Eileen (Stalter) Hatem. He passed away at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio, on March 27, 2021. Prior to retirement, he was a plant superintendent for Nicofibers for 40 years. Mike was a licensed pilot and enjoyed family vacations, but most important was the time he spent with his loving family, especially doting on his grandchildren. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of 32 years, Carla D. (Sherwood) Hatem, whom he married July 14, 1988; son, Shawn M. (Melisa) Hatem; stepsons, Robert A. (Liz) Schein Jr., Brian A. Schein, and James A. (Kathryn) Schein; grandchildren, Lily, Ellen, Colton, Beau, Julie, Isla and Dominic; brother, Louis “Ed” (Patty) Hatem; sisters, Angie (Mark) Barringer, Paula (Dave) Cotterman, Lisa (Bill) Cozad, and Patti (Jerry) Hayes; uncles, Monsignor Anthony Missimi and Dominic (Nancy) Missimi; aunt, Judy Stalter; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa A. Hatem. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mike to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
