Charles “Rich” Cocanour, 83 of Newark, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025. He was born January 15, 1942, to the late Walter and Betty (Coleman) Cocanour.
Rich was born in Newark and spent most of his life living in the area. He spent four years serving his country in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Texas, South Carolina and Ohio. Rich deeply valued hard work and was a machine operator at “The Rock,” Rockwell International in Heath for 36 years. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers union.
When he was younger, Rich loved attending Heath High School sporting events, summer days at Lake Hudson, Saturday morning breakfast with Bill, and mowing the lawn. Rich was a collector of classic cars and traveled around the country with his friends going to car shows; he particularly enjoyed his 1950’s Chevys.
Rich loved his many, many meals at Watt’s Restaurant and was a big fan of the Buckeyes. He delighted in talking to his grandsons and hearing stories about them.
Rich was a member of the Northside Baptist Church, and his faith was a cornerstone of his life.
Rich is survived by his daughter, Britt (Heather) Cocanour and his son, Josh Cocanour; his grandsons, Beck and Cash Rowe; his sister, Marjorie Britton; his brother, David Cocanour; nieces, Molly Britton, Jana Snedden, Jaye Wilder, and Jennifer Hogue; nephews, Sam and Eric Britton; and his devoted companion Connie McArtor.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Judy Hitchcock; his brother, Thomas Britton; and his stepmother, Jeanette Cocanour, who raised him as a child.
A celebration of Rich’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19th from 2-4 pm at the Doubletree Hotel at 50 N 2nd St in Newark.
