Our dearest Charles Maurice “Skip” Stricklin, 70, of Newark, died Thursday, March 2, 2023, at the OSU Wexner Medical Center. He was born August 11, 1952, in Newark to the late Charles E. and Rosemary (Leckrone) Stricklin. Skip was a friend to all and an enemy to none. A lover of the written word, he was an avid reader and dedicated supporter of his local library. He was a self-taught artist who enjoyed experimenting with various shades of pencil to create the perfect sketch. On any given day you would be sure to find him at the local park with a sketch pad, a book, or a scrabble board. His love of history is what spurred his interest in volunteering with the Licking County Historical Society, where he spent many years serving and working in various roles. He was invariably quick to share a joke and his infectious laugh with his friends and loved ones. Most will remember him for his greatest role-playing Santa Claus. During the holiday season he brightened untold number of children’s lives and adults alike. He lived a simple life filled with love, wonder and delight that he willingly shared with all who knew him. He is survived by Niece, Stephanie D. Walsh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by, Sister, Deborah M. Walsh (Stricklin) and Brother, John E. Stricklin. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the be made in memory of Skip to the National Park Foundation, www.nationalparks.org or the Licking County Historical Society, lchsohio.org. The family is having a Celebration of Life at Don & Sue’s Pizza on Saturday, April 1st from 11 am-12:30 pm.
