Clarence Albert “Sonny” Miller, Jr., age 103, of Thornville, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at his home. Clarence was born December 21, 1920 in Galveston, Texas to the late Clarence A. Miller, Sr. and the late Annie Emily (Hemingway) Miller.
Clarence was a 1939 graduate of Kerwin High School in Galveston. He retired from the United States Navy after 27 years of service and then worked for 22 years at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Following his second retirement, he was employed with Avis Rental.
Clarence was a member of the Moose, the Elks, and the Amvets. His greatest passion was golfing and he traveled with the military golfers. He enjoyed cooking, especially seafood, and was known for his fried shrimp, shrimp gumbo, cabbage, and his delicious Pralines. He also loved magic and was quite the magician. He played Santa for many children and really enjoyed it. Clarence also loved spending time in Florida during the winter and coming back home to Ohio in the summer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christine (Evans) Rieg; his daughter, Lorraine Ann Miller Bullis and her husband, Jerell W. Bullis, Jr. of Houston, Texas; step-children, Philip (Lisa) Rieg of Eaton, Colorado and Alice Noble of Lancaster; grandchildren, Michael David (Erin) Bullis and their children Hunter and Reagan, Heather (Bren) Hill and their children Alexandra and Isabel, Ryan Miller, Danielle Miller, Christopher Rieg and his daughter Alyson Rieg, Stephanie (Eric) Stedman and their son, Isaac Stedman, Shelby (Dean) Slocum and their children Owen and Reed Slocum, Troi (Allan) Orth and their daughter, Ashley Orth, and Morgan (Chad) Reihing and their children, Lane and Makenzie Reihing; adopted son, Robert Christopher (Wendy) Miller; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Helen (Phillips) Miller and Audrey (Stevens) Miller; son, Charles David Miller; stepdaughter, Laurel Stevens; sister, Lorraine Elizabeth Miller; and step-son-in-law, Roger Noble.
