Constance C. "Connie" Baldwin Mears

A memorial service for Constance C. "Connie" Baldwin Mears, age 99, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, with The Reverend Stephen H. Applegate officiating. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.Connie was born November 23, 1914 in Newark, Ohio to the late Dr. Franklin E. and Ruth (Speer) Corkwell. Connies father was one of the founders of Park National Bank and was also one of the founding directors of First Federal Savings and Loan. Connie passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Kendal at Granville.A graduate of The Ohio State University, Connie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and was employed as a teacher with Newark City Schools for 21 years. Connie was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, P.E.O. Chapter AB, Monday Talks, the Review Club and enjoyed Bridge and gardening. She was a former member of P.E.O. Chapter DL. Connie was of Episcopal faith and attended church services at Kendal. She supported many charitable and philanthropic organizations in the community.She is survived by two nieces, Susan Scherer of Columbus and Sheila Dendahl or Santa Fe, NM; step-daughter-in-law, Sandra E. Baldwin; step-children, Mary Lou Tussing of Heath, Charles S. (Geri) Baldwin of Columbus, Ruth Ann Mears and her husband, William Sanders of Clarion, PA, John (Kathe) Mears of Centennial, CO and Carl (Delores) Mears of Louisville, Kentucky; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Gail M. Blakeley, Jr.; husbands, Dr. Charles S. Baldwin and Warren Mears; step-son, Robert Baldwin; and two sisters, Elizabeth "Libby" Corkwell Flanigan and Helen Corkwell Sandbo.Memorial contributions may be made to A Call to College, the Licking County Humane Society, The Works Museum or the Licking County Historical Society.
