Cora Lee Thompson

A graveside service celebrating the life of Cora Lee Thompson, age 80, of Newark, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Hanover Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the graveside at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Masks are required and please practice social distancing.

Cora was born May 11, 1940 in Newark, Ohio. She passed away on Monday, July 6, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Cora was a cook at Dagwood’s Restaurant for over 40 years. She loved gardening, flowers, painting, and cooking, and was especially known for her delicious bread pudding and chili. Cora enjoyed gambling and loved playing cards, Poker, Tonk, and slot machines. She worked at Lucky’s, a slot machine room, for a few years. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with all of them.

She is survived by two children, Skip Allen (Kim Diemoz) of Newark; Sharon (Paul) Johnson of Meadowview, Virginia; grandchildren, Terry Baker, Jr., Joseph Baker, Chasity Raymond, Bradley Allen, Jessica Fields, Zack Johnson, Madison Ety, Jason Kendal, Max Harte and Sydney Johnson; great-grandchildren, Secora Ballinger, Mackenzie Baker, Autumn Baker, Seth Baker, Luke Baker, Carson Baker, Elizabeth Ety, Ryder Johnson, Hudson Fields and Kynlee Fields; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth Larason; a son, Leroy Allen; grandchildren, Krizma and Kazmin Mason; a sister, Charlotte Barker; and a brother, Donald Balwick.
