Dana L. Smith, 91 of Thornville, died on Friday, December 30, 2016 in Newark. He was born April 8, 1925, in Glenford, of the late Mark and Daisy (Ice) Smith. Dana requested that there be no services. Burial will be at a future date. He proudly served his country as an Army medic during the Second World War. Serving under General Patton and participating in the Battle of Bulge. After the war, he became the first medic on the Buckeye Lake Fire Department. He worked for Rockwell Standard in Newark until his retirement, when he then moved to Florida; returning to Ohio in 2015. In his retirement he enjoyed bicycling and landscaping at his residence in Florida. Dana is survived by his family: son, Dana R. (Barb) Smith; his brothers: Lawrence, and Clifford; his sisters: Monabelle, Betty, Margaret, Doris; Granddaughter, Barbie; Great grandson, Zach; and step-great grandson, Rob Heptinstall; and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jennie (Rock), his brothers: Don, Maurice, Harold and George Franklin; his sisters: Eileen, Marie and Pearl.
