Daniel Jacob Zimmerman

Daniel Jacob Zimmerman, age 93, of Thornville, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2109 at Chapel Grove Inn.

Daniel was born October 19, 1925 in Delaware, Ohio to the late Frank E. and Gertrude M. (Woods) Zimmerman. He was a veteran of the United States Marines and faithfully served his country during World War II. Dan retired in 1987 from Local 200 where he had been a carpenter. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #537, was a Shriner and was also a member of the Thornport Amvets. He enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, shuffleboard, playing cards and enjoyed a good casserole.

He is survived by three children, Cecelia (Wayne) Smith of Somerset, Daniel Timothy (Loretta) Zimmerman and Cindy (Will) Saum, all of Thornville; grandchildren, Brian (Jenny) Zimmerman, Jenna Howel and Kara Howel, Samantha Smith (Peter Morse), Kent (Julie) Smith, Josh (Mary) Shearer, Lindsey McCullough (John Emmert), Amber (Dan) Warner and April (Brett) Ginn; 16 great-grandchildren; nephews, David and Frank Zimmerman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Zimmerman, on December 10, 2012; two brothers, Charles D. Zimmerman and Clytus E. Zimmerman; and two sisters, Olive Swearington and Dorothy Reedy.

The family will observe a private celebration of Dan’s life.
