A memorial service celebrating the life of Davey Lee Saylor, age 90, of Granville, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 67 North Fifth Street in Newark with Rev. Martin P. Gehring and Rev. William J. Rauch officiating. Military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance following the service.
Davey was born November 15, 1930 in Newark, Ohio to the late Samuel Libert Saylor and the late Ruth Edna (Koogler) Saylor Klein. He passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Davey proudly served his country in the United States Army for four years and served most of that time in Germany. Following his active-duty service, he joined the Ohio National Guard where he served for nearly 40 years, retiring as Supply Sergeant.
Davey was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion. Davey was military through and through and was a very patriotic person. He loved spending time with his family and doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid lover of dogs, especially his faithful companion “Buddy”.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Lou (Keeran) Saylor, whom he married June 15, 1956; daughter, April (Joe) Frazee of Granville; grandchildren, Sasha (Jonathon) Knowles, Amber Thatcher and Justin Frazee (fiancé Charlie Weekly); great-grandchildren, Dylan Knowles, Lana Thatcher-Knowles, Evelyn Knowles and Wynter Jones; sister, Nancy Saylor of Newark; nieces, Joy (Sy) Payne of Fort Myers, Florida and Jill (Greg) Hupp-Wiles of Newark; several great-nieces and great-nephews; family caregiver, Janet Frazee; special friends, Brenda and Cline Estep of Newark and Paige and Nick Naylor of Heath.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Edie Thatcher, on January 10, 2004; and by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard A. Saylor and Noreen S. Ley-Saylor.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Licking County Humane Society, the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.
