David A. Athey

View David's Life Tribute A funeral service celebrating the life of David A. Athey, 75, of Newark, will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral and Cremation Service, with Bishop Travis Kirk officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, two hours prior to the funeral service on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. David was born in Newark, Ohio on October 9, 1946 to the late Raymond and Reva (Smith) Athey. He passed away at Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehab on October 19, 2021. David was a 1964 graduate of Heath High School. He attended and graduated from the ABI Bible College. Prior to retirement, he worked at Owens Corning for over 25 years. David was a life-long member of the Christian Life Center in Heath and was an ordained minister. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cincinnati Bengals fan. Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Alice Athey; nephews, Jay (Sharon) Athey, Brad (Cheryl) Athey, and Brent Athey; nieces, Amber (Tom) Hammond and Jami (Marvin) Bright; nephew-in-law, Jason Swinehart; several great nieces and nephews; and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, James and Patty Athey; brother, Ronald Athey; and niece, Tricia Swinehart. The family would like to thank his cousin, Gary Smith for all of the help and care he provided over the years. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of David to the family in c/o the funeral home, to help with funeral expenses.
