A funeral service celebrating the life of David Duane Hoffer, age 69, of Newark, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, in the green space outside St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6004 Linnville Road SE, Newark, with Pastor Eric Miller officiating. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lutheran Cemetery.
David was born January 24, 1952 in Newark, Ohio to the late Robert Oren and Zeraline K. (Brown) Hoffer. He passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
David was a trackman, welder, and inspector for B & O Railroad and later CSX. He enjoyed gardening, cutting firewood, and fishing. He was meticulous about his yard and considered himself to be a Lawn Maintenance Technician. David was a movie buff and especially enjoyed Westerns.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Margaret (Nemeth) Hoffer, whom he married June 3, 1972; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette Michelle & Rob Compton of Granville; grandchildren, Bob Compton and Trent Compton; sisters, Polly Ann Jenkins of Alexandria, Linda Mae Adams of Etna, Mary Leota Trapp Windle of Baltimore, and Terry Peck of Newark; brothers, Rodney Robert (Debbie) Hoffer of Newark and Robert Oren Hoffer of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Robert Hoffer and Richard Lee “Butch” Hoffer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you overtip your server in memory of David as that is what he was known to do.
