Dean Emswiler

A funeral service celebrating the life of Dean Emswiler, age 93, of Pataskala, will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Kirkersville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Jill Dunlap as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Kirkersville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, December 10, 2021 from 5-8 pm at the funeral home, 285 E Main Street in Kirkersville; and also from 10:00 until time of the funeral service at 10:30 on Saturday morning.

Dean was born September 9, 1928 at the family home in rural Pataskala, to the late Byron and Thelma (Smoke) Emswiler. He passed away on December 5, 2021 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital.

Dean was a 1946 graduate of Etna High School and was a full time farmer.

He is survived by his five children: Larry (Faye) Emswiler of Columbus, Brad (Sharon) Emswiler, Cathy (Keith) Sims, Lowell (Julie) Emswiler and Dale (Layla) Emswiler; along with his sister Janice Laver, all of Baltimore, Ohio. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Dean was an avid euchre player and Freedom Year’s traveler. He will be buried as he lived, barefoot.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 62 years, Velma Mae (Lawrence) Emswiler, Brother Kenneth Emswiler, granddaughter Stacey Emswiler and brother-in-law James Laver.
