A funeral service celebrating the life of Dee Carlos Newlon, age 81, of Harrisville, West Virginia, formerly of Newark, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Joyce Hill officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Dee was born October 23, 1933 in Troy, West Virginia to the late John Lon Newlon and Winnie Mae (Riddle) Newlon May. He passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Dee was formerly employed locally by Houston, Gutridge and Maharg Plumbing Companies and had been a coal miner in West Virginia. He was a member of the Church of God in Pike, West Virginia and enjoyed building, woodworking, gardening, working on cars and camping with his family. He is survived by his wife, Betty O. (McCormick) Newlon, whom he married October 27, 2002; eighteen children, Angie Newlon of Tennessee, Roger (Anita) Linger of Hebron, Donna Newlon, Glen Newlon, Patty (Steve) Riffle, Vernon (Ginny) Newlon, Jim (Tami) Newlon, Joe (Roberta) Newlon, Tim Newlon and Kim Newlon, all of Newark, Mike (Becky) Newlon of Johnstown, Rachel (Damian) Shackleford of Newark, Jason (Amy) Newlon of Zanesville, Chuck (Becky) Frederick of Parkersburg, WV, Peggy Sams of Pennsboro, WV, Tina Frederick of Parkersburg, WV, and Sally Newlon and Linda Lynch of Harrisville, WV; 50 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; sisters, Freda, Mary and Nellie; brothers, Charles, Ronnie and Bobby; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Black; brothers, James, Pete and Carl; a sister, Sylvia Jean; and his former wife, Genevia Gail Newlon. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 5, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
