Graveside funeral services, celebrating the life of Delma Jean Shade, 93, formerly of Hebron, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021 in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jacksontown. Delma will be buried with her beloved husband John William Shade, who preceded her in death in 1969.
Delma was born April 26, 1927 in East Sparta, Ohio, the daughter of the late Paul and Esther (Baughman) Bungard. She was a graduate of East Sparta H.S., class of 1945. She was a homemaker and also worked for the Lakewood local schools, and several local sporting goods stores.
An avid Cleveland Sports fan, she attended the 1949 World Series to see the Indians. She ran the concession stand at all Lakewood home baseball games for many years, and enjoyed supporting the sports programs at Lakewood. She rewarded players with a cupcake for each home run scored and also had a big bullseye magnet made for the hood of her car, which she parked behind center field, encouraging the players to hit it. She also enjoyed crafting and sewing, as well as travelling all over Ohio to attend her children and grandchildren’s events.
She is survived by her loving family: son John (Dori) Shade of Cambridge, Daughter Susan (Terry) Jordan of Thornville, step daughter Sharon Webber of Altus, OK; grandchildren Jay Shade, Shawn (Leyna) Parker, Erin (Devon) Butler, Brett and Tammy Reed and Robbie Courson; great grandchildren Kobe, Dominic, Kylah, Cameron and Jaxon; sister Ellen Auflick of Memphis, TN., and a dear cousin Mary Lou Bendroth; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson Scott Parker.
The family prefers that expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions, be directed to the Lakewood Athletic Boosters, c/o Lakewood High School, 9331 Lancer Rd, Hebron, Ohio 43025.
