Dennis Swingley

Denny Swingley of Thornville, OH was called home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2024.  He was born on July 25, 1934 in Mt. Vernon to the late Charles and Evelyn (Hall) Swingley.

Denny had a strong love of the Lord, his family, serving others, all things nature & conservation, as well as a passion for how things ‘used to be done’.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Nancy (Shaw) Swingley. Daughters: Robin and Mark Purdy of Mt. Vernon, OH. April and Stan Maletz of Virginia. Patsy and Jeff Nelson of Tennessee. Other Son: Jason Foltz, Thornville, OH. Grandchildren: David Ulsh of Pennsylvania, Samantha Maletz of Colorado, Victoria Trupiano and Kyle Nelson of Tennessee, and Anastazy Maletz of Virginia. Plus 7 great grandchildren, the Thursday Evening Garden Crew, and his angels on earth Patricia and Allie.

Denny was a member of: Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Hocking Valley Gas & Steam Assn., Byesville Scenic Railroad, Newark Seventh Day Adventist Church, as well as serving many years on the Thornville Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from The Village of Thornville Water and Sewer Department.

Denny didn’t know a stranger and always made time to share information about gardening, trains, gas engines, and helping people find random old tools/parts.

At his request, there will not be any calling hours or a funeral.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Hospice of Central Ohio.

In memory of Denny, please do something nice for someone who may never be able to repay you, be kind to your neighbor, and/or plant a tree.
