A funeral service celebrating the life of Dillon Lee Dunlap, age 79, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Bryan Moore officiating. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery where military honors will be observed by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 1, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.
Lee was born October 18, 1944 in Newark, Ohio to the late Charles Dillon and Thelma Louise (Green) Dunlap. He passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.
A 1962 graduate of Utica High School, Lee served in the United States Army from 1967-1969. He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University in 1972 with a Bachelors degree in Horticulture. While at OSU, he played the coronet in the OSU Marching Band. Lee had a passion for horticulture and landscaping and worked in various nurseries in Zanesville, Wapakoneta, and Columbus. He later owned Spring House Landscape. He used his artistic ability in landscape design for the Longaberger Company at the Basket and the Homestead. Lee was a member of the Chatham United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his sister, Louella C. Gwin of Frazeysburg; brother, Charles W. Dunlap of Newark; nephews and niece, Russell Gwin, Julia (Mark) Falvo, and John (Liz) Gwin; great-nieces and nephews, Caleb and Leah Falvo and Claire and Layne Gwin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Gwin; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Dunlap.
