A graveside inurnment service celebrating the life of Divon Smith, age 84, of Heath, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2019 at Newark Memorial Gardens. Divon passed away on November 4, 2018 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).
Divon was born November 12, 1933 in Millvale, Pennsylvania to the late David Cramer and Dora (Rehbeck) Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from Newark City Schools where he had been employed in maintenance.
Divon was a talented woodworker who enjoyed making cars, trucks and trains for Toys For Tots. He was a baseball coach and ran the Kiwanis Baseball Park for twenty years. Divon also enjoyed fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Alice Lou (Hall) Smith; four children, David W. (Lisa) Smith, Mark A. Smith, Jeffrey V. (Melynn) Smith and Lisa L. (Steven) Bates; five grandchildren, Audrey (Heath) Burson, Aaron Smith, Matthew Bates, Krewson Smith and Riley Smith; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dona Jean Smith, Dorinda Daniels and Dorothea Goff; and a brother, Donald W. Smith.
A graveside inurnment service with military honors will be observed in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio or Toys For Tots.
