Donald Charles Burns

  A celebration of life service for Donald Charles Burns, 90, of Newark will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Sandusky, Ohio. Don was born in Lakeville, Ohio on December 26, 1927 to the late Leo Robert and Elizabeth M. (Cortfriendt) Burns.  He passed away at his residence on October 11, 2018. Don proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller during World War II and the Korean Conflict.  Prior to retirement, he was a tool and die maker at the Newark Air Force Station. He was a member of the American Federation of Government Employees Local #2221, Newark VFW and a former member of the Newark Moose Lodge. He enjoyed gambling, playing Keno, horseshoes, darts, woodworking, and tinkering.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and doting on his grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Theresa (Brad) Burns Martin, Robert (Madeline) Burns, Ann “Boo Boo” Burns Reese and Elizabeth (John) Ayersman; grandchildren, Lauren, Zane and Maddie; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie (Davis) Burns; sisters, Margaret, Katherine and Alice; and brothers, Bob and Tom.
