Donald Jack “Don” Hammond, age 83, of Newark, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Licking Memorial Hospital.
Don was born January 22, 1937 in Newark, Ohio to the late Cramer and Celia (Kneller) Hammond. He was a 1955 graduate of Hebron High School. Don retired from the Owens Corning Tech Center in 2000 where he had been employed for over 25 years.
A true outdoorsman, Don enjoyed working in his yard, gardening, and loved to feed the hummingbirds that frequented his feeder. He also enjoyed tinkering with cars, motors, and tools and doing things with his hands. Don was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He was also an avid OSU Buckeye fan. Don was known to be a very generous person who loved people. He never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Louise (Bayles) Hammond, whom he married November 10, 1956; three children, Michael (Susan) Hammond of Newark, Lisa (Robert) Campopiano of Oakton, Virginia and Cindy (J.B.) Evans of Blythewood, South Carolina; grandchildren, Amanda Hammond (Jason Cupp), Kendre (Chuck) Geis, Shelby (Megan) Bentley and Josey Evans (Dennis Cash); great-grandchildren, Miracle, Andrew, Maci, Jaxon, Dylan, Xavier, Zach, Alexia, Mason, Lily, Sophia and Addy; sisters, Bonnie Guanciale of Newark and Judy (Jim) Diuguid of Reynoldsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, George Hammond and Lewis Hammond; and a sister, Carrie Hutt.
The family will have a celebration of Don’s life at a later date.
