Donald L. Oyler, 82, of Alexandria, died peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013 in Columbus, following an extended illness. He was born September 9, 1931 in LuRay, Ohio, the son of the late Lloyd and Theresa (Seymour) Oyler. A graduate of Kirkersville H.S., class of 1949, he served honorably in the US Naval Air Reserves, and attended Columbus Business College. Don retired in 1988, after 40 years with Nationwide Life Insurance, as a Personal lines underwriter.An active member of the community, Don served as secretary for Alexandria Service Club, voted Man of the Year in 1968, President of Fletcher Chapel Cemetery Association, President of St. Albans Farm Bureau Council in 1976, served as trustee for Alexandria Museum, Secretary of Kirkersville H.S. Alumni Association, Member of Alexandria Buckeyes and co-chair of the field trip committee.During the late 1940s and early 1950s Don was an avid softball pitcher for Norman Products industrial team, Licking County Church League and Heart of Ohio League in Columbus, earning a spot in the Columbus Softball Hall of Fame.He spent many years as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher in the Alexandra Methodist Church, and currently attended the Outville Presbyterian Church.He is survived by his loving family: wife, Patty (McCullough) Oyler, daughters Dr. Bari (Richard) Stith of Huntsburg, OH, Kristen S. Oyler of Broomfield, CO., grandchildren Amanda Stith, Jason Stith, sister Lila (Richard) Swetnam, nieces and nephews in Ohio, Colorado and Maryland; special High School classmates Ann Collins, JoAnn Carlisle, Jean Klema, and Raymond Hite.Preceeded in death by his parents, Son Jeffrey D. Oyler, sister Marvene Bumgardner, and brother Edwin Oyler.Friends may call on Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 11:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral services at 1:30 PM. at the HOSKINSON Funeral & Cremation Service home in Kirkersville, (285 E Main St.), where services celebrating his life will follow with Pastor M. Stephen Merold as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Alexandria.The family prefers memorials to Fletcher Chapel Cemetery Association, c/o S.
