A funeral service, celebrating the life of Donald LaVerne Rodman, age 81, of Newark, will be held on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with his son, Pastor Mark L. Rodman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors being observed by the Licking County Veteran Alliance.Donald was born in Marion, Ohio on December 31, 1933 to the late Benjamin L. and Clarice (Evans) Rodman. He passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital on December 6, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family.Donald served his country proudly in the United States Army. Prior to retirement, he was a maintenance mechanic with the Newark Air Force Base for 23 years. He also delivered the Columbus Dispatch from 1990 to 2008. He was an active member and a High Priest with The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder-day Saints in Granville. Donald had an outgoing personality, never met a stranger and loved everyone he met. He enjoyed word search puzzles, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.Survivors include his children, Virginia Rodman, Jeff Bennett, Pastor Mark Rodman, and Dale (Peggy) Rodman; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Velma L. (Bennett) Rodman in 2002, whom he married July 12, 1962; children, Howard Bennett and Merle Rodman; and numerous brothers and sisters.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Donald to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
