Dora Lee Allen

A homegoing memorial service for Dora Lee Allen, age 83, of Newark, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Dora Lee was born February 21, 1939 in Eatonton, Georgia to the late Square Allen, Sr. and the late Flora (Richards) Allen. She entered eternal rest and went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2022 at Flint Ridge Nursing Center surrounded by her family.

Dora Lee worked as a prep cook for many years at Denison University and Cherry Valley Lodge. She enjoyed fishing, music, and playing cards with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children, Wanda Brent, who was her caretaker, and Lewis (Lori) Allen; brother, Frank (Billie) Allen; sister, Mary (Eric) Royster; grandchildren, Maurice Allen, Crystal (Brad) Gravely, Latasha (Mike) Giardina, William Starky, Orville Nichols, Eugene Nichols, Tracy Nichols and Kim Shough; 26 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Milton Brown, Square Allen, Jr., Eddie Lee Allen, and Samuel Allen; and a sister, Ola Stephens.

Dora Lee’s favorite saying was, “Everything is up to the Good Lord.”
