A memorial service celebrating the life of Doris Anita Lafferty, age 91, of Newark, will be held at 11 a.m. on April 26 at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 West Broadway in Granville with Pastor Karen Chakoian officiating. Anita was born August 13, 1925 in Brant, Ohio, to the late Ralph Edward and Beatrice Irene (Funderburg) Evans. She passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). Anita was a 1943 graduate of Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, Ohio. For most of her career she was a federal civil servant and was an executive with the Selective Service Administration and, later, the Social Security Administration's Black Lung Program in Ohio and California. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville. Anita was an active volunteer for 29 years with suicide prevention and rape crisis counseling and, for 26 years, she was a volunteer at Licking Memorial Hospital. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed painting and traveling for much of her life. Anita is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael B. Lafferty and Margaret L. Meriwether of Newark; grandson, Patrick Meriwether Lafferty of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John William Lafferty in 1990; two brothers, Loren Evans and Dale Evans; and two sisters, Lois Elliott and Ruth Artz.
