Dorothy Jane Dawson

A memorial service celebrating the life of Dorothy Jane Dawson, age 86, of Granville, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Jim Welsh, Dorothy’s son-in-law, as celebrant.

Friends may call from 5-6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Dorothy was born June 20, 1937 in Earlehurst, Virginia, to the late James Thomas and Edna Clark (Nicely) Hartless. She passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at Licking Memorial Hospital.

Dorothy was employed with American Greeting Cards for a number of years. She enjoyed being around people and socializing, playing Bingo, and traveling with her husband, especially camping and going on cruises. Her family meant the world to her and she loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed doing activities with her Middleton family.

She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 64 years, Charles William Dawson, whom she married February 27, 1960; son, Terry (Donna) Dawson of Newark; daughters, Brenda (Jim) Welsh of New Lexington and Sandy (Kevin) Layton of North Lewisburg; grandchildren, Danielle, Matt, Lindsey, Kyle, Dillon, Alex, and Breana; great-grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, Carleigh, and Ruth; sisters, Jean Ruton, Nancy Carr, Delores Nethers, and Patty Bruner; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janie Marie Dawson; and brothers, James Richard Hartless, Harry Thomas “Tommy” Hartless, Bobby Leon Hartless, and Melvin Hartless.
