Dorothy Eileen "Dot" Derolph

Dorothy Dot DeRolph, 92, of Thornville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017. She was born July 24, 1925, to Luke and Esta Smith Ridenour and was raised in the Thornville area. After marriage, she moved to Hebron, then to farms in the Glenford area, where she and Paul raised their family for 50 years, then to Thornville. Dot states: Farming was a lot of work for everyone, but we had some great times as well and appreciate the peaceful and safe times.She was a 1943 graduate of Thornville High School, and was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed the services, music and bible studies as well as serving in many capacities, including choir director for over 12 years. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Grace Church.Dot was also a member of various farm organizations, Glenford Mothers Club, Thornville Senior Citizens, Thornville Home Makers and 2 card clubs. She loved to travel in and out of the US.Dot enjoyed most kinds of music, and loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.She is survived by her loving family: children David, Dale (Jeanie), Dean (Cathie), Jane (David), Dennis (Marian), Susan (Jim), 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her brothers John (Judy) and Lewis, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by husband Paul on Feb 18, 1990, brother Carl in January 1990, sister Marjorie Packer in 2016, granddaughter Stephanie Ann in 1982 and other relatives.While Dot loved flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial contributions in her memory be directed to the Grace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 284, Thornville, Ohio 43076.Her family will receive friends on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, 65 E Columbus Street, Thornville; where funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017. Dot will be buried next to her beloved husband Paul in the Highland Cemetery, Glenford. In honor of Dot and her amazing cheerfulness, please wear something pink to the services.
