Dorothy Jane Smathers

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Dorothy Jane Smathers, age 89, of Thornville will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Thornville home of HOSKINSON Funeral and Cremation Service, with Pastor Mark Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.Dorothy was born in Glouster, Ohio on October 10, 1925 to the late Virgil and Freda (Stolz) Strohmeyer. She passed away peacefully on February 5, 2015 at Autumn at the Lake in Thornville.Prior to retirement, she worked for Western Electric for over 25 years. She enjoyed playing bingo, bird watching, and the love of nature, reading and especially enjoyed raising and spending time with her family. Survivors include her children, Virgil (Lois) Smathers, Jane (Frank) Waters, Clarence (Karen) Smathers, Jr., Greg (Andrea) Smathers, Grace (Lee) Friend, James (Danielle) Smathers and Jeffrey (Dorene) Smathers; sister, Anna Mae Carpenter; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Raymond Smathers in 1974; and one brother, Virgil Strohmeyer, Jr.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dorothy to the Thornville Public Library, 99 East Columbus Street, Thornville, Ohio 43076.Friends may call at the funeral home, 56 S.
