Dwaine Karl Howell

Dwaine Karl Howell, age 84, of Thornville, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 doing what he loved to do best, play golf. He was born November 23, 1936 in Rittman, Ohio to the late Russell William and Vera (Kohler) Howell.

Dwaine was a 1954 graduate of Rittman High School and was a brick mason for many years with his father and on his own. He was employed with B&L Motor Freight for 23 years and later was an insurance agent with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company for 20 years. Dwaine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville. He loved golfing, reading, and wintering in Florida. He was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Sheridan High School sports. Dwaine was a very proud grandfather and great-grandfather and loved his family dearly.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin (Becky) Howell of Thornville and Joseph (Anna) Howell of Somerset; six grandchildren, Jay Cox, Trent (Meagen) Howell, Andria (Jesse) Coppel, Kaitlyn Howell, Kelsey Howell and Rachel (Zach) Carpenter; six great-grandchildren, Wesley Howell, Maxwell Coppel, Madyson Howell, Theo Coppel, Luella Greene and Everett Coppel; brothers, Neal (Glenda) Howell of Seville and Jim (Peggy) Howell of Burbank; sisters-in-law, Mamie Howell and Iona Howell; several nieces and nephews; and his golfing buddies.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Ann (Workman) Howell, on April 27, 1958, and she preceded him in death on February 17, 2015. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Howell and Larry Howell.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Dwaine which will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, at the Howell Barn, 35 Arlington Avenue in Thornville.

Private inurnment will take place at Lutheran Reformed Cemetery in Thornville where Dwaine will be laid to rest with his wife.
