Earl Chester Burchard

A funeral service celebrating the life Earl Chester Burchard, age 87, of Newark, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. The service will begin with a Masonic service observed by the Newark Lodge #97 F & AM. Burial will take place in Wilson Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark.

Earl was born January 16, 1937 in Newark, Ohio to the late Harley and Anna Mae (Spurrier) Burchard. He passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio).

Earl retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas where he had been a mechanic. Following his retirement, he was a driver for Moore’s Paint for several years. Earl was a member of Newark Lodge #97 F & AM and the Scottish Rite. He loved to tinker and enjoyed playing golf. He was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes.

He is survived by his children, Carl Lee (Anita) Burchard, Mark Mason Burchard, Richard Allen “Rick” (Brenda) Burchard, Johanna Scanlon, Chester Scanlon (Jenny Harris), Anna (Bobby) Sothen, and Maria (Keith) Robertson; step-children, Mary Juanita (Charles) Pethtel, Rosella (Richard) Peck, Daniel (Sherril) Scanlon, and Stella Cockrell (John Robertson); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Burchard; sisters, Lucille Corder and Mary Whittington; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Sally Porter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou (Porter) Burchard, on November 3, 2019; by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl A. and Chris Burchard; two brothers, Shelton Burchard and Harley Burchard; and two sisters, Mildred Burchard and Anna Mae Burchard.
