Edith L. Henderson 88, of Newark, passed away, in her home Thursday, March 23, 2023. A Celebration of her life will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 3:00pm, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, Ohio. Pastor Bruce Wynn officiating, Pastor Michael Menefield, Eulogist. Private burial will be Friday, March 31, at Marion Cemetery, Marion Ohio. Friends and family may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service from 1-3pm. Edith was born on July 19, 1934, in Milledgeville, GA, the daughter of Eugene and Josephine (Davis) Johnson. She was one of seven children. The family moved to Marion, Ohio when she was in her teens. She then moved to Newark, Ohio in 1969 Edith enjoyed a very active life that revolved around family, friends, her church, and for the last 47 years, enjoying life and travel with her husband Willie. For many years, she loved going back to Marion Ohio for Holiday gatherings with family and friends. She also always looked forward to the many family reunions in Georgia and other locations. She was a very faithful person and devoted member of Trinity AME Church in Newark Ohio for over 50 years. She worked tirelessly and gave of herself in support of the church. She held many offices in her local church, Conference, District, and Connectional level. Over the years her dedication to the church afforded her the opportunity to travel and participate in church meetings and Conferences all over the United States and one trip to South Africa. She worked particularly hard in the church Lay Organization where she loved connecting with the people. Edith worked at the Newark Air force Base in Heath Ohio in various jobs and as an inertial guidance tester. She retired in 1996 after 28 years of service. She loved to take cruise vacations. Along with family, friends, and church members, Edith and Willie were able to take over sixteen cruises throughout the Caribbean, Europe, and South America. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Willie, daughter Nancy, two sisters, Marion Slater of Marion, OH, and Vivian Bonner of Richmond, IN; along with a number of nieces & nephews. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy, Ernestine, Minnie Pearl, and Katherine. Her life has been busy, but she always took time to serve her God, and always thanked him for his goodness and mercy.
