Elijah Jay Smith

Elijah Jay Smith, 20, of Newark, died suddenly on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in Columbus. He was born May 20, 2003, in Clovis, California, the son of Charles Robert Smith and Jennifer Lee (Pike) Smith.

Eli was a graduate of Lakewood H.S., class of 2021. He was employed as a Train Conductor with Gennessee Wyoming Railways. He had also formerly worked as a car mechanic.

Eli loved motorcycles, singing, playing the guitar, performing, and entertaining others with his outgoing personality and sense of humor. He also loved being outdoors. Eli was a spiritual person and was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints.

He is survived by his loving family: his parents, his sister, Abigail (Naleo) Hyde, his grandparents, Diana and Ronald Pike, Pamela and Richard Smith; his great grandfather, Earl Hackwell, great grandparents, Marjorie and Harold Carling.

Eli will be honored at a private ceremony with his family later.
