A funeral service celebrating the life of Elizabeth Ann Snookie Dawson, age 82, of Newark, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Sowards officiating. Friends may call from 5-6 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Elizabeth was born April 6, 1935 in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late Paul Deward and Mary Belle (McQueen) Tunnell. She passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the home of her granddaughter in Newark, surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth was a 1953 graduate of Science Hill High School in Johnson City where she had been a majorette. After high school she attended East Tennessee State University. She had been employed by Denison University as the manager of the computer center and had also been employed as office manager of JCC, Inc. of Granville and worked for several years at Larrys Drugs in Newark. She is survived by her loving children, Victoria Khan, Julia E. Bowman, Donald R. (Lisa) Dawson, Jr. and Gabrielle (LeShawn) Hampton; grandchildren, Nicol, Donnie, Cortney, Mark, Celeste, Kyle, LeShawn, Jr., Shanee and Shania; great grandchildren, Nautica, Natajia, Monte, Jr., Nicolas, Nyree, Ramoni, Ross, Ajani, Celena, Zerek, Aubrey, Jacob, Ashaunti and Leonna; brother, Charles (Judy) Tunnell; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and several cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Donald Ross Dawson, Sr., whom she married September 26, 1956 and who passed away on August 1, 2017; and by a brother, Roger Tunnell; and sister, Gail Estep.
