A funeral service celebrating the life of Elmer Benjamin Burris, age 76, of Newark, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, June 18, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street in Newark. Elmer was born September 5, 1941 in Newark, Ohio to the late Elmer C. and Lillian B. (Kirk) Burris. He passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Flint Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Elmer retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas. He was a longtime member of the Newark Church of Christ and was a member of Dawes Arboretum. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. A former girls softball coach, Elmer enjoyed following college softball teams. Elmer had a big heart and was very loving to his family and friends. His sense of humor and loving support will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly (Dennis) Telepchak of Thornville and Patricia (Jerry) Hoffer of Nashport; grandchildren, Erin (Randall) Littlejohn of Cleveland, Megan (Chris) Ranney of Columbus and Brian Hoffer of Reynoldsburg; brothers, Ed (Sharon) Burris of St. Louisville and James Burris of Chillicothe; sisters-in-law, Sharon Nethers of Newark and Betty (Tom) Parish of Buckeye Lake; brother-in-law, Russell Dixon of Arkansas; fiance and good friend, Pat Redman of Heath; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mary Eileen (Dixon) Burris, who passed away on February 29, 2012; and by his brother-in-law and best friend, Ralph Nethers I.
