A funeral service celebrating the life of Emmett Wayne Pelfrey, 77, of Newark, will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Criss Wagner Hoskinson Funeral Home, with Pastor Cheryl Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. Visitation will be held at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark, one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Emmett was born on September 27, 1946 in Mount Sterling, Kentucky to the late Maggie Pargen. He passed away June 21, 2024 at home with his family by his side. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was also in the Army National Guard. Prior to retirement, he worked for Rockwell International for over 30 years. He was a member of Newark Eagles #387. Emmett was a true Kentucky Wildcats and The Ohio State Buckeye’s fan. He loved watching basketball, football and NASCAR racing (Dale Earnhardt) and he loved country music. He survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Martha Nichols Pelfrey, whom he married February 18, 1995; his dog, Mighty Mouse; daughters, Stella Pegan (William Lockhart), Audrey (Richard) French, Missy Daniels, Tina Nichols, and Juanita Pelfrey; sons, David Joseph, Sr., Robert (Heather) Campbell, Duwayne Pelfrey, Joey (Edie Jo Copher-Pelfrey) Pelfrey, Gary Pelfrey and Dewey Nichols (Jennifer Helms); sisters-in-law, Lori Allen and Linda Matthews; brothers-in-laws, Sonny Nichols and James Nichols; grandkids, Candi Pegan-Crawmer, Hershel Pegan (Amber Shields), Takela (Koty) Frazier, Tristan Lockhart, Cale Lockhart, Samuel Lowery (Blake Holdsworth), Dakota Lowery, Gavin (Cierra) Sutton, Zachary Daniels, William Lockhart Jr, Danaya Joseph, Cheyenne Lockhart (Pat Shepherd), David Joseph Jr, Zachariah Lowery, Kylee Gutridge, Michael Thomas, Erik Daniels, Aydin French, Isabella Campbell, Zoie French, Gabriella Campbell, Xavier Campbell, Lorenzo Campbell, Aria Campbell, Zeke Campbell, Becca Campbell, Savannah Campbell, Robert Campbell Jr, Piper and Jasper Pelfrey, Charlie Mitchell, Devin Shough, Virgie Mitchell, and Beckham Nichols; great grandkids, Faith Westbrook , Norah Pegan, Briley Pegan, Joseph Pegan, Mariana Pegan, Ella Baker, Kalvin Frazier, Aubriella Lowery, Rebekah Jane, Benjamin Sutton, Kota Daniels, Aubri Dunlap, and Emmitt Sutton; really good friends, Carol Farmer, Joann Farmer, Russ and Joy Murray, Dave and Bev Bennett, Jeff Kiebler, Tresa, Kyle and Shawna Hunt, and Tim and Cathy Basham. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Maggie Pargen, and step-dad Marvin Pargen; infant son, Marvin Ray Pelfrey; infant daughter, Angela Lynn Pelfrey; brother, Edwin Pelfrey; step-son, Jim Bob Pegan; step-daughter, Minnie Nichols; grandsons, Ronnie Mitchell and Jonathon Alexander Campbell; granddaughter, Natoshia Shyann Marie Pegan; great granddaughter, Lillian Annajean Sutton; brothers-in-law, Bucky Nichols, Theodore Nichols; sisters-in-law, Pauline Tolle, Robin Gragg and Virgie Nichols Miller and his beloved dog Ebony. The family would like to thank Hospice of Central Ohio for all of the care and support that was provided to Emmett during his illness. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Emmett to Hospice of Central Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
